BELL BIV DEVOE
The hit R&B group Bell Biv DeVoe was formed in 1988 by singers Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe, all of whom broke away from the group New Edition following the departure of frontman Bobby Brown. Bell Biv DeVoe's 1990 debut, Poison, was produced by Jimmy Jam, Terrey Lewis, Hank Shocklee and Keith Shocklee -- four of the biggest names in the business. Not surprisingly, it became a smash hit, selling three million copies and spawning the hit singles "Do Me!," "Poison" and "B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)." After the release of a 1991 remix album, Bell Biv DeVoe returned to the studio to record their proper follow-up, 1993's Hootie Mack. In 1996 Bell, Bivins, and DeVoe rejoined New Edition for a new album and massive reunion tour, putting Bell Biv DeVoe on the back burner.
